The live air picture, built for streams
Covering a crisis live? Wingwait's stream view turns the live military air picture into a broadcast overlay. It has labelled aircraft, automatic event alerts, a spotlight card, hotspot tours, clocks and a broadcast delay. Build yours in Stream Studio, preview it live, and paste one link into OBS, vMix or Streamlabs.

- Event alerts (lower third) announce new tankers, surveillance aircraft, bombers, fighters and VIP jets entering your view, racetrack orbits as they start, watched callsigns appearing, and any emergency squawk. Emergencies jump the queue.
- Spotlight card features one aircraft, big: flag, callsign, type, altitude, speed, heading, squawk, pattern and nearest hotspot. It rotates through the most interesting aircraft, or you click a plane to feature it.
- Follow mode locks the camera on one callsign, such as FORTE11, as soon as it appears.
- Watch list highlights callsign prefixes (RCH, NATO, FORTE…), announces them and can play a chime.
- Hotspot tour flies between the busiest areas on a timer. There are 11 hotspots, from the Black Sea to the Taiwan Strait.
- Side panels show an event log, a hotspot table, counts by country of registration and a colour key.
- Clocks: UTC plus up to three local zones (Kyiv, Moscow, Jerusalem, Tehran, Taipei…).
- Broadcast delay holds the picture back 30 seconds to 10 minutes, for responsible coverage of live operations.
- Backgrounds: dark or light map, transparent (overlay on your own map or camera) or green screen.
- Scale for 1440p and 4K, panels left or right, labels full, callsign-only or off, and trails.
- Rehearsal mode uses simulated traffic, so you can build scenes before you go live.
- Live keyboard control through OBS "Interact": hide the HUD, switch labels, start or stop the tour, next spotlight, follow, and jump to hotspots with 1–9.
Set it up in OBS
- Build a scene in Stream Studio and press Copy OBS link.
- In OBS, add a Browser source and paste the link. Use width 1920 and height 1080, or your canvas size.
- Untick "Shutdown source when not visible" so it keeps updating. Tick "Control audio via OBS" if you use the chime.
- To steer it live, right-click the source → Interact, then press ? for the keys.

On-air responsibilities
- Credit the data. The overlay carries its credits (adsb.lol under ODbL, OpenStreetMap). Keep them visible.
- Explain the limits. This is public ADS-B and MLAT only. Aircraft that switch off can't be seen, and positions can lag by up to a minute.
- Don't over-read it. Tanker orbits and surveillance flights are routine most days. Consider the delay option during live operations.
Questions
Is Stream Studio free on monetised streams?
Yes. Please keep the on-screen data credits visible. The adsb.lol data is licensed under the ODbL, which requires attribution.
Can I put the aircraft over my own map?
Yes. Choose the Transparent background and the map disappears, leaving aircraft, labels and panels over whatever sits beneath in OBS. Green screen works for other software.
How often does it update?
Every 15 seconds by default, with aircraft gliding smoothly in between. Alerts, clocks and the spotlight update continuously.
