Tap SOS and Wingwait shows every aircraft in the world currently squawking an emergency code, with its recent path and whether the emergency is still active.
See live emergencies →What the codes mean
| Squawk | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 7700 | General emergency: medical, technical, fuel, anything urgent |
| 7600 | Radio communication failure |
| 7500 | Unlawful interference (hijack) |
Most 7700s end safely, often as a precautionary diversion for a sick passenger. Wingwait marks each one ACTIVE, HEARD (last seen a while ago) or CLEARED.

Questions
Why do some 7700 flights disappear?
The crew often resets the code once things are under control, or the aircraft descends out of receiver range. Wingwait keeps recently cleared emergencies in the SOS list for an hour.
